Is Your Soul Longing to Commune with You?

My favorite rendition of the jazz song, “(In My) Solitude,” was performed by Billie Holiday, and originally composed by Duke Ellington and written by Eddie DeLange and Irving Mills. The song is an ode to a love lost and the loneliness that consumes the heartbroken.

Consider the song and its lyrics as your your own higher self longing to be closer to the human embodiment of your soul on Earth or the other way around. Your muse longing to connect with you so that you can create. Or perhaps it is a callback from one of your past lives that once knew greatness as you silently give up your power to people and things outside of yourself.

In my solitude you haunt me

With reveries of days gone by

In my solitude you taunt me

With memories that never die

Whatever way you interpret the song, perhaps as a diversion from its original intent, consider the spiritual meaning of why you’re in such a state. When you’re feeling alone or feeling isolated, it is an invitation from the Universe, your soul, your spirit guides, to go within, to nurture your creativity, or to give love to others.
