The Long Apocalypse

Wars, Plagues & Natural Disasters have dotted our timeline for the last 100 years. So what’s different this time?

In the movies, the Apocalypse is always depicted as a one-day disaster that no one saw coming. Fortunately for us, we’ve had at least 100 years to see the writing on the wall. Anyone who has been alive during the 100 years will witness the end of an era of what the Earth we now know is coming to an end.

I believe that great energetic and societal shift, which looks like an ending, will lead to a new beginning. A new more spiritually connected beginning. A beginning where people will truly strive for equality in every sector of society. But before that evolution can begin, some old ways must come to an end. The “my way or the highway,” “you’re either with me or against me” mentality must go away and be replaced with a negotiation mechanism that encourages compromise and a “for the good of all humanity” way of thinking. I don’t have the answer to what that looks like, but I’m sure it’s coming as long as the right people are at the table.

The definition of “Apocalypse” according to Dictionary.com that I’m writing about is: “a prophetic revelation, especially concerning a cataclysm in which the forces of good permanently triumph over the forces of evil.” Now, “evil” can be a very subjective term, and the signs of a classic Apocalypse from western religious texts can be seen as symbolic or real, depending on the reader’s personal or religious beliefs.

I believe the “Apocalypse” is a series of events over a period of time that sparks a new era. We cannot continue to subsist on giving in to war if we cannot compromise. We cannot continue to build weapons designed for mass destruction (remember “mutually assured destruction”?) as a means of peacekeeping. We can not continue to haphazardly address events like natural disasters, famine, and pandemics in such a way that people can’t even decide on a definition of what’s actually occurring.

Research on your own the following examples in categories how many times we’ve had the same scenarios repeat and how the world recorded these events.

  1. Wars and Genocide (World Wars I & II)
  2. Natural disasters (major earthquakes and tsunamis, hurricanes, floods, winter storms)
  3. Famine (too numerous to list, but there has been one on almost every continent in the last 100 years)
  4. Plagues and Pandemics (COVID-19 is just one example)

At the time that they occurred, the most recent event in any of these categories may have been elevated as the worst of all time, but truly what does that mean? How did the world as a whole come together to solve these problems or meet them head on? In what ways have our efforts failed us as one nation may view each and every one of these events through very different lenses? One may claim there was no such genocide, or flat out deny some events even happened.

Hear me out. Wars and genocide, natural disasters, famine, and plagues or pandemics are nothing new to history. These events have been well documented throughout history, but what makes the end of this epoch so special? Have we ever truly understood these subtle shifts in humanity’s progress into a new era?

One astrologer called this generational shift the Age of Aquarius and explained, “Aquarius is associated with progressive thought, new ideas and shifts of entire societal structures. The advent of technology, the acceptance of new genders and the attempt at righting historical wrongs is very Aquarian. As are technological advancements, from space travel and even social media.”

If you’re more of an intellectual and prefer to consume your information from thought leaders and articles and books about current affairs, then you might prefer to read up on books like, The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference by Malcolm Gladwell, or Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed by Jared Diamond. Although outdated and sometimes problematic in their oversimplification of some world events, they’re examples of the type of assessments of, granted, cherry-picked events in history. This reading list is more modern and might spark your curiosity. (Please feel free to share book recommendations in the comments section).

Some might also look at a new era in technology as a sort of apocalypse in its own right. While still a hotly debated and constantly evolving area of technology development, artificial intelligence (AI) is something not to be overlooked. The jury is still out on whether AI is going to assist humans or eventually take over, but it’s clear that we will never go back. Elon Musk has sounded the alarm, and so have many international institutions, like the United Nations, which has set up an advisory body to consider the risks of this rapidly developing technology on society and how to govern it.

AI pervades almost every aspect of our technology systems and the processing power of AI is mind-blowing. Careers are being born around AI that we never would’ve believed outside of science fiction. Machine learning enables machines to advance itself. If they’re capable of doing that, there’s no question about the speed of which our society will need to advance to keep up.

So what does this have to do with spirituality? After all, you come to my articles to learn more about your soul development or to explore a different perspective. These variants in how we’ve responded to potentially world-ending events is exactly why we have long apocalypses throughout history.

World events, disasters, shifts in technology prompt us to think beyond our national borders and concerns, to how the world will address these challenges together. Why wouldn’t spiritual leaders be a part of these discussions? After all, there are numerous examples of wars started over religion. Maybe it’s time to bring spiritual (not just religious) leaders and philosophers to the bargaining table. Maybe it’s time to think beyond what’s right in front of us and to look at the “Long Progress” to understand how humanity can shift to meet the challenges as a whole.

So, no, the Apocalypse may not be fiery night of destruction and then otherworldly beings come back to usher in order and peace. Maybe they’re among us or beside us the whole time whispering to us the path forward, and maybe we haven’t been listening. The Apocalypse is happening as we speak, but the true end of this era has been in development for well over 100 years. What’s on the other side of this ending is up to us. I believe we (and with the assistance of our own respective divine helpers) will bring in order, peace, and true equanimity, but it will not be overnight.

The evolution of our new era will require Light Workers and everyday people working together to rebuild a world that considers all of Earth’s creatures and humans and restore balance to the planet. Our relationship with each other and the world around us must evolve if we want our Earth to stay green and blue and rotate around the Sun as it always has.
